  • Will the new Vienna Instruments Pro have beta testers?

If so, may I volunteer to send reports to Vienna Symphonic Library? To be honest, the reason I bring this up is becuase of the perceived need to have had some more testing done on the current software. Vienna Instruments will not currently load  any of my saved matrix files that are configured as presets (yep, I have the latest of all updates on everything from Vienna Syphonic Library); I can see them on the directory manager for both Windows Vista and Vienna Instruments Directory manager (and I have updated that tool to have it read again the file direcotries on the hard disks)  but VI crashes as stand alone and plug in when I try to load them. I'd be willing to send a report to the tech folks  when I have about 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour to detail all of the things that they need for a report but for now I'm just saying there's a perceived need for more testing of the software across a very wide spread of users so an accurate database could be built on errors that will inevitably occur under all imaginable situations.  Also, could Vienna Symphonic Library manaagement look into having auto logs for system errors that occur because and  while Vienna Instruments is running so error logs could be sent automatically?

    Thanks in advance

  • Hello rverne10,

IĀ“m sorry to hear about your troubles - please tell us which OS you are using, is it Vista 32, Vista 64? If you have just recently installed Vienna Instruments over an old version (like 1.11, thatĀ“s on an older software CD), please make sure that you run the Directory Manager as administrator (right-click the Directory Manager application and choose "run as administrator").

This is a bug that just recently showed up and will be fixed with the next version.

Your customized matrices and presets are saved in the "Custom Data Folder", and you can manage the location in your DIrectory Manager. Please make sure that it is read- and writable.

Of course there is a lot of testing going on with Vienna Instruments PRO, and we will start working with our official beta-team in a few weeks.

But letĀ“s get your Vienna Instruments troubles fixed first - this software runs steady on 1000s of computers, IĀ“m sure that we can tackle this.

    Best,

    Paul

  • Good Morning Paul:

I'm sorry, but I will stand by my original evaluation. First, let me just say;  I am committed to using the Vienna Symphonic products and find the sounds so very useful muscially speaking, that I will put up with a great deal to drive around this relatively minor problem. I can save projects quite successfully in Cubase 4.5 and Vienna Ensemble so the issue with the Vienna Instruments (not being able to load files with the .fxb extension)  is relatively minor and cannot stop me from using the software. And Yes, I did ask for an update from  the Vienna Instruments Directory manager by making it rescan the hard drives and I am even now doing that again after having added all of the potential files that may be in use.

Second, I am an experienced computer user and may or may not find a solution; in regards  to the above problem, in the past, I have always had pretty much find my own solutions (with other software also); taking the time for sending a description of the problem is usully 99 % of the solution anyway. I just find that the simple issue of loading a file with the file extensions the sofware creates(.fxb) should not be causing any problems whatsoever notwithstanding the complexities of the Vienna Symphony Library database and the complexities of Vista updates and the complexities of what other software I may have loaded on my computer. I really don't feel I should have to do the legwork on this. I am aware that software conflicts may exist on my computer and that may be causing a unique situation to my desktop but again, should not this be of some consideration to software developers? I will double check for every update known to my situation that may pertain and keep looking again for a solution.

Also, can anyone else who uses the software report on whether they can

    1. Open Vienna instruments Interface and load saved .fxb extensions.

    2. Report on why Vienna Ensemble reports using Vienna Instruments build 4131 when I have build 5132 ( the last build available)? In other words when I ask Vienna Ensemble to insert a new instrument it loads a blank Vienna Instrument window that reports it is reporting for duty as build 4131. Not sure about that being an issue but it may be. I know this is an additional issue but perhaps that may be related to Vienna Instruments having an Identity problem and not really knowing which version it is? I will look into reloading everything on my computer again soon anyway, I may have reinstalled the software too many times in attempts to solve some other issues.  . .  . again, this is not a really tremendous issue, I am sure that a simple solution exits.

Again, thanks Paul for your kind attention to this, I am not trying to be difficult, I just feel that I have to take a stand.

    thanks

  • Hello Ray,

I tried to reproduce your situation on Windows 7 (I donĀ“t have Vista here at home): I see the latest build number 5132 in every instantiation, I can save and load presets (*.fxp-files) without any troubles, both as standalone and plug-in.

I will do my best to find out more in the next days - if anyone is in a similar situation or has experienced this behaviour, please let me know.

    Best,

    Paul

  • The versions do not match because VI is actually integrated into VE, which means that the version number of VE will be shown in the VI interface there.

With regards to presets: Recently a bug was discovered in the standalone version of VI that causes a crash when loading .fxp presets. This is unique to the standalone version and doesn't affect the plugin versions of VI. An update will soon be released that fixes this.

  • Thanks
