    Had a few hours spare so I thought I'd download the MIR demo. PC's not up to spec for anything big but thought I could at least have a listen to one instrument!

    but

    My soundcard (edirol UA-25) will not let me change its buffer to a power of two!

    So I downloaded ASIO4ALL just to see and although that will let me set a buffer of a power of two now MIR crashes - I can hear the "previews" but when I try to loadn the demo room MIR crashes

    Do I have any hope of at least having a little play with MIR? Any ideas?

    Sorry to hear about your troubles.

    So the Edirol doesn't offer latencies like 256, 1028 or 2048 samples? Hmmm ... very strange. :-/

    I would start with a setting around 1000 samples, and try to increase the buffer multiplier setting within MIR itself. Let me know if this helps.

    That didn't work either

    Not to worry I think that the Edirol just isn't appropriate for my use (despite their protestations to the contrary!) and so I will buy another soundcard (BTW it offers buffers like 144, 288, 432 ......)

    Only reason I bought the Edirol to start with was that the other cheapish soundcards didn't have XP 64 drivers - but Win7 64 support seems much better

    Steve, are you sure that your sampling-rate is 44.1?

    Yep I did check that - there's a physical switch on the back of the UA-25 set to 44.1 and then the driver software says 44.1

    I know - it's weird!

    There's clearly a compatibility issue here but do not worry too much on my behalf. 

    I've been thinking of changing soundcard as I've had much poorer performance in general since changing from XP64 to Win7, 64 (as documented in the notation forum!) and this is just the stimulus required to get on with it!

    So I've ordered a new soundcard

    Of course, if that doesn't work I'l be back asking questions!

    Well, I changed my soundcard and the engine now works fine..... very odd behaviour from the Edirol!

    Anyway... it sounds great (of course) but for some reason I cannot see the venue floorplan around which to move the icon? I've looked at the manual but I cannot see what I've done wrong... I can move the icon but if I move it too far it bounces back - presumably because I've moved off the stage I cannot see?

    Good to hear that you ruled out the culprit.

    Steve, did you actually load a venue, or are you still seeing the default opening screen?

    If this isn't the reason - do you see the Venue Map (i.e. the floor-plan), or is the main window empty? In this case, there might still be an issue with the graphic settings and/or features of your system.

    Apart form that: Clicking the "HotSpots"-button below the lower the main window's lower right corner will give you an idea where the valid spots are. An Icon moved to the outside of these areas will bounce back, or - if you changed the Venue within an existing project - will be greyed-out and muted. Just zoom out as far as you need to see them again, and move them to the valid area.

    Thanks Dietz - it's now working - although I didn't actually change anything to make it do so, just tried again and now I can see the venue "floorplan".

    So other than some odd "loopback" messages from loopbe  (when I cannot spot any problems anywhere!) on my meagre (!) system I now have 20 instruments running in MIR from Sibelius on the same machine!

    Splendid.I guess I'd best save up for the full license!

    Thanks for the positive feedback, Steve!

    Regarding the loopback-warnings you get from LoopBe: There should be a dedicated button in the application's control panel where you can switch off this feature. It is meant to limit bandwidth to the 31 kBaud of the original MIDI-specs ... nothing we need in the virtual world any more :-D
