  • VEP buffer affects CPU usage on master or slave?

    Hello VSLers,

I know this has been mentioned on the forum before but my searches haven't turned up any results. What I want to know is when I change the buffer settings of the VEP connector plug down to x1 or x0 will that hit the CPU on the master machine or the slave? Or will the hit be (roughly) evenly split between both machines?

I'm thinking of adding an old machine to my rig but I'm not sure the CPU is up to it.

    Thanks in advance!

Amazing, I was about to post this exact question myself!

  • I can see on my system by changing the buffer on the plug to 1 on the master increases CPU usage by about 10% on that machine. I can't see much happening on the slave though but that could be because my slave Mac is quite powerful.

  • Thanks for the answer. Does anyone at VSL have an idea what happens regarding the CPU load on the master & slave when the connector buffer is changed?

    Thanks in advance,

    Martin

  • Only the CPU use on the master will go up when lowering the latency buffers.

  • Thank you so much Karel. Nice to get a definitive answer!

  • Agreed, thanks Karel!  .. even if it was not the answer I had hoped for!
