    I'm using Vienna Suite to 'polish' a piece I've played on an Ivory Grand Piano. I've split the music into 2 tracks ( in Logic 8 ) 1. Main   2. Highlight,  requiring individual EQ and Panning but the same Reverb.

    I'm unsure where to place the PowerPan in the order of things in the mixer strips.

    At first I had 1.EQ  2. PowerPan  on each individual channel strip, sent to a bus with 1.EQ (preset) 2. Convolution Reverb, but then I questioned whether it was nonsensical to place the  PowerPan in the middle.

    Perhaps it doesn't matter.  Would very much appreciate some thoughts on this.

    Hello Kay,

    Is this just a solo piano piece?  Why don't you do what you think is best and then post it.  We'll listen and let you know.

    For me, it depends on what kind of piano piece I'm writing.  If it's just four part harmony for a choral arrangement or something I like to pan the bass and tener notes hard left, or right it doesn't really matter, then I like to pan the alto and soprano notes the opposite way.  This makes the piano sound fuller than it actually is.  However, this method doesn't work so well if you're doing something with a lot of arpeggio patterns in which case It just depends on the piece and what sounds right for me.  Since I was trained on piano, I'm a bit particular about panning, eq, etc. so I don't have any set rules for it.

    Yes - it is solo piano.   If you pan the SATB as you've written, isn't there a 'hole' in the middle of the sound?   

    I'm happy to post- can you fill me in how exactly ? I haven't bounced yet- does it matter ( re posting )  if it's wav or Mp3 ?  And should I send it to Dropbox and then post the URL here ?  Or how ?

    Oh! I'm sorry Kay, you're talking about power panning.  Actually I haven't tried my panning method for power panning set ups so you may be right about there being a hole in the middle.  Try it anyway, if there is a hole you could try and fill it by panning each side closer to the middle; it doesn't have to be hard right and left it could be soft right and left.

    As far as posting your material, if you can post it on any site then provide us a link to that site by posting the link.  I have my own website so that's where I post my material but, if you don't have a site, there are other sites that will host your music for free like imradio.com.
