Please pardon the intrusion if this is basic and obvious, but I am seeking some clarity here...
My current rig is:
HOST: ProTools 8.0.1cs1 running on a Mac G5 (PPC) OS 10.5.8
Slave#1: PC/WinXP running VE Pro 32-bit server
Slave #2: MacBook Pro, currently running OS 10.5.8, with VE Pro 32-bit server
A friend suggested that I upgrade my slave#2 machine to OS 10.6.3
MY QUESTION: If I am running 10.6.3, is there any reason to NOT keep running the 32-bit servers? I do not have a ram issue as my machine is capped at 3gb. Is there anything I can read about VSL instruments in regard to 32-bit vs. 64-bit mode? DO I GAIN ANYTHING by opening VSL instruments into 64-bit servers?
Question #2: If my host is running 10.5.8, are there any issues if I connect to a 64-bit server on the slave?
Are there compelling reasons to NOT upgrade my slave #2 to Snow (this machine is also my personal laptop and "business" machine when not in-studio, so I will benefit from snow for everything not in the studio). When I buy new DVD VI instruments, do they come in both 32/64-bit? Do I have to install different versions?
Thanks for the clarifications.
