As DG said above.  Don't hold your breath on this one because there are outside factors that need to be tended too prior to them finishing this.  As stated in many threads before, the hardware specs on the Mac Pro's are simply not as fast as they are on the PC/Windows based side yet (mainly the issue will be the speed of memory busses).  Once they are truly up to par I am sure VSL will move forward with it.

My gut feeling is (purely speculation) based on my experience with VSL is that they are probably already doing it in the background but you're not going to know about it.  And when the time is right and the hardware is good enough to support the intense code and demands MIR uses, they will release it.  I know you say you don't want to go back to Windows but Windows 7 is the most superior operating system they have ever written (for users).  Their servers are just as good now a days.

You can get a PC running Windows 7 capable of powering MIR that will completely crush the performance of a maxxed out Mac Pro for 1/4th to 1/2 of the cost of the Mac Pro.  There is no comparison at this point (and I am a Logic/Mac user).  However I run MIR on a Windows 7 box and I have to say, it's DAMN impressive.  If you are sitting around waiting for an OS X version you are doing yourself an injustice.  Windows 7 takes minimal user training and since all you would be doing is running MIR (and possibly VE Pro) on it, all you have to know how to do is turn it on, login and launch your VSL application.  And please don't give the "virus scare" speech or listen to one from someone else because anyone using their recording studio machine for internet browsing or looking at dirty e-mails deserves to be slapped anyway.

Like stated by our fellow forum members: We plan to release Vienna MIR for OSX as soon as we have overcome a few, but impeding Mac-specific hurdles, both hardware- and software-dependant.

Right now, you would have the option to use MIR on a Mac with Windows 7 under BootCamp, although with a few restrictions regarding raw processing power.

    HTH,

So when MIR will be ready for MAC I will have a better performance from my MAC PRo?

  • I hope so, but I can`t give you a serious answer as we don`t have a version ready for proper testing.

  • Well... with new 12 core MacPro apparently on the way, maybe we'll see MIR for Mac soon (I hope so!). Even if it almost puts a 4 core to its knees, it would be nice to have for that final bounce (with all the tracks frozen)! [Y]

  • We work on it! [H]
