I've completed a performance of the third movement of Derek Bourgeois 2nd Brass Band Concerto which can be heard here Created entirely with Sibelius and MIR it has really pushed my i7 extreme 12GB machine to the limit. It uses 27 brass and three percussion each using 10+ patches half of which are performance patches. This last movement is 7 minutes, the whole work is about 25 minutes.

The first two movements can be heard here and here.

  • Like the first two movements, a really interesting and thrilling piece of music. Great work.

  • Thanks Andi for your kind comments. I've had some very positive feedback from the composer. Sadly this piece has not been commercially recorded and has only rarely been performed since it was written in 1977.

However as a direct result of making these performances available on the net I have had a conductor say he will try and persuade his band to perform and record the work in their next season. Which confirms the positive possibilities of creating virual performances of rarely performed pieces.

I know these performances could be improved upon if I had a better understanding of the mixing side of things and the possibilites of the various applications n the Vienna Suite. Still much to learn.

  • Thanks David!

It's always good to read, when new or rarely performed music gets more attention and gets recorded - especially when the attention is based on a VSL-demo. ;-)

    Best,
    Andi
