  • VE Pro Decoupling Use in Single Mac / Logic

Sorry. I still do not understand decoupling, what it does or hopes to do.

With just one Mac 8-core 2.8 running 10.6.2 and the latest 4881 VE Pro software, what is the benefit of decoupling? Is this a feature intended for networking only?

  • As written in the manual, it detaches itself from the host, so that the host doesn't save plugin information for the VE Pro instances. This causes saving a project to become much faster. So when your template is setup and you are ready to go, and you no more do any changes to the setup, you should decouple. Just make sure that if you do any changes, and need those changed saved in your Logic/whatever host project, you need to "un-decouple" again before you save.

  • Thanks so much, Simon. Yes, I had read the manual, but it just was not clicking. Now I understand it's a librarian / save tool. Unfortunately, my template is never finished.

  •  Well, you can always save a metaframe instead. And then at some point "un-decouple" again and save your project in your sequencer, just to make sure you have the information in two places.

  • What I do is use 2 VE pro instances, a 64 bit instance (decoupled) for my large sample libraries (pianos, orchestral) and a second 32 bit instance (not decoupled) so it can save all edits) for Superior 2 and various synths.
