Here's another "Why am I the only one having problems with this?" question.
18 GB, Logic 8 (or 9, it doesn't make much difference), 8-core 2.8 GHz, 10.6.2, latest VE Pro Beta.
I have a large VE Pro template loaded on the same computer as Logic, a template of around 5 GB. On paper, this is well within the range of VE Pro and Logic. About 8 GB remain free in a computer holding 18 GB total.
But CPU spikes and overloads come in tandem with this large load. As a song progresses, it becomes impossible to continue. I have to jettison VE Pro instruments and entire instances. That helps, but it's still pushing the CPU envelope. Space Designer seems a particular hog, so I delete those too.
1. Is this normal? Do we all face single-computer Logic CPU hits when VEP has larger loads?
2. Are there optimal settings to stop the overloads?
I already have the buffer at 1024, the I/O safety buffer is on (in Logic 8), and the Buffer Process Range is as high as it can go. Live performance (playing live over already recorded tracks) is slow, and the first note is almost always lost. Even this I can tolerate if the song would just keep playing.
3. Does Logic take this same CPU hit in the meters if VE Pro is running off a separate computer on a network?
