  • Sib 6 Sluggish and a keyswitch question

    Hi,

    1. Ever since upgrading to Sibelius 6, the same score that I was working on in 5.25 is much slower and is showing a much higher CPU usage while using the exact same VSL template.  Is anyone having the same experience?  My setup is Quad core xeon 3.0, 10.4.11, and 10gb or ram.  Every mouse click and action is much slower than what I was experiencing in 5.25.

    2. In 5.25 I was able to use my keyswitches to change patches within the matrices when the score playback was stopped.  This is useful when you want to, for example, play polyphonically to try an idea, but the last articulation triggered for the selected instrument/staff is legato.  I would simply hit the keyswitch for sustain and be on my way until I hit the playback (spacebar).  Now, if I use the keyswitch, it will select the correct articulation, but if I try to play any notes, it reverts to whatever articulation was last used in the playback in that voice/staff.  So, I have to then click on a sustain note or rest in the score in that instrument's staff in order to have VSL switch to the sustain articulation.  This is very tedious.  Can someone confirm if this is normal?

Thanks for taking the time to answer these two questions that are making me wonder if I shouldn't go back to using 5.25.

    Best,

    O

  • Hello ozofonoun!

    1. I think that your machine getting slower with Sibelius 6 is not a normal behaviour. Does that only occur in connection with Vienna Ensemble or also with other AUinstruments?

    2. When I play notes on my keyboard, the behaviour depends on if there is a note selected in Sibelius or not. If there is a note selected, every key I press on my keyboard is entered as a note (also keyswitches). So if I want to try things out, I click in between notes to unselct the note. Then I can play whatever I want, also keyswitches without them switching back.

  • I'm experiencing exactly the same with Sibelius 6.1. Much slower and much higher CPU usage.

With version 5.1, I also used some Vienna Suite plug-ins (master EQ en Conv. Reverb) but had to switch them off in 6.1 just to get Sibelius perform a bit better.

    Abraços,

    Wim

  • Hi Andi,

    1. I don't really use any other AU instruments with Sibelius, so I may have to experiment.  In any case, I am hearing some others confirming similar bahaviour, so I'm not sure where the problem lies.

    2. Everything you describe is exactly how 5.25 behaves for me. However, in 6.1, keyswitches do not work without switching back.  It's weird since so far, no one else is able to reproduce this problem.  Is there some kind preferences or something that I may need to trash, or is there any other setting that could be causing this?

    Thanks,

    O

  • Thanks for confirming Wim!

  • Hi Ozoufonoun!

    1. I didn't notice any difference in performance on PC, but didn't compare it on Mac. So it may well be, that Sibelius 6 on Mac takes more Performance.

    2. Not that I know of. Maybe this is also a Mac/Sibelius 6 thing.

    Best,
    Andi

Same odd behaviour here. So unfortunately I can't help you much apart from confirming that you're not the only one experiencing this.

  • Thanks for confirming.  What is your setup?  OS? Processor, etc?
