Synsopos/VSL Daemon Windows 7-64bit query.

I have been testing new OS this week and am running two networked computers with VSLPro. C5 64bit is my software.

1. I was just wondering why if the Syncrosoft licence driver says it is both 32 and 64 bit that the Synsopos says 32* in the task manager running processes.

2. If I run VSL 64bit server locally and then boot cubase with the 64bit enesemble I get VSL Daemon 32* in the task manager.

Maybe I am missing something here but shouldn't those processes be 64bit?

Any feedback appreciated

It's all irrelevant, because the VSLdaemon is the copy protection. It shouldn't affect anything to do with the running of either Cubase or VE Pro.

Yes, it is clear that Cubase and VE pro are running in 64bit but I was a little suprisesd to see the 32bit processes on related items though. I did think the VSL daemon copy protection would be 64 bit as well.

64 bit OS is all new to me, the lifting of the memory issue is.....great!

to dig deeper: the copy protection is the eLicenser (ViennaKey), the synsopos process is just the device driver for the eLicenser and the vsldaemon is just a little helper to speed up checking licenses during work *)

the main advantage of 64bit applications is to a) handle large amounts of memory (more than 4 GB) and b) allow 64bit calculation (simplified speaking doubles the amount of 32bit calculations)

 

the synsopos and the vsldaemon both do not need to handle much data and processing, so they can stay in the 32bit scope for preserving compatibility (eg. you can run a 32bit VE PRO instance on a 64bit operating system to stay compatible with 32bit plugins or samplers).

*) the backdraft is that vsldaemon does not re-read licenses you add eg. by adding a second key with additional licenses and keeps the synsopos process running even if the audio host has been quitted.
