  • VEpro: saving and file structure

While using VEpro, I see myself regularly use the "save" functionality without exactly knowing how to use it correctly. Today, I downloaded the VEpro 1.2 manual to learn more about it. But all I could find is a heading "File Structure" with the following sentence:

"There are different ways to save your Vienna Ensemble PRO setups and templates."
"You can save separate Vienna Ensemble PRO projects – the saved files will be called *.viframe32 and *.viframe64"

So, that must be an omition in the manual because I guess there is much more to say ... ;-)

What I would like to know is the following:

    - What is saved if I use "save project" within VEpro? Also concerning 3rd party plugins; do I have to save the settings seperately?
    - What is saved if I use "save metaframe" within VEpro Server? How is this related to the included VEpro pojects? Are the filenames of each VEpro project known at VEpro Server (metaframe) level? If I save an individual VEpro project, it's filename appears in VEpro Server in the list of VEpro instances. Why is that?
    - What if I change a Vienna Suite user preset, save it under the same name (overwriting); what happens to other channels that use that same preset?
    - If I save a Playback Configuration in Sibelius, it also triggers the "save" function of all the connected VEpro instances. Is this the same as "save project" for every VEpro instance? What if I loaded the instances from VEpro Server Metaframe file?
    - In the beta release of VEpro (4780), I see new functionality to save and load "channel sets". What is a "channel set"?

If there is a location/manual where I can find this information, please let me know because reading the manual is no problem to me ... ;-) Maybe it's because of the integration of all the seperate products, it's hard to find in all the different manuals?

Any help is more than welcome. Many thanks in advance.

    Abraços,

    Wim Dijkgraaf

    1) You save a "viframe" file, one instance of VE PRO. This saves ALL settings of all loaded instruments, Vienna Instruments and 3rd party.

    2) A metaframe saves multiple instances of VE PRO (all instances that are opened within one VE PRO Server). This is one step above the VE PRO projects (viframes). The name of a VE PRO file appears in the VE PRO Server list, because it is not an "anonymous" instance anymore - you labeled it.

    3) Good question. Do you want to tell us what you find out? I will try that, too.

4)I´m not a Sibelius specialist - please contact our support team via  to find out more. What happens if you load the instances from a VE PRO metaframe?

    5) A Channel set includes multiple channels. You can save it over the channel menu of Vienna Ensemble PRO. I will update the manual asap.

If the setting is already loaded, it will stay untouched. If you load the setting the next time, it will use the new values.
