    Portamento and Glissando with Sibelius

It's trying but not succeding. The technique has been added to my soundset. But when I notate Portamento between two notes, sibelius skips the first note and only plays the second note (in time, where the first not should be) so no portamento is heard, yet since it is skipping the first note I deem it is recognizing the notation but not performing it correctly. any suggestions? I should mention this is orchestral strings.

    Thanks!

  • Hello Lon!

Which version of Sibelius are you using?
Which sound set do you use?
What do you mean with "the technique has been added to my sound set"? Portamento is already included in the sound sets for the Special Edition and the Special Edition PLUS (the two collections you have registered). Did you change anything there?
How did you notate portamento? Did you use the portamento line or did you write "portamento"?

Here is one further hint how you can optimize portamento playback (taken from the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual):
In order to get a note to start a new portamento phrase, select the note before this note. Then go to the Properties window/Playback. Activate the Live duration and make it shorter than the preset value (around
30 ticks, depending on tempo). Now this note ends the phrase and the next note should be a start-up note in a new portamento phrase.

    Best,
    Andi
