In the intro to Mahler's 5th, the theme is stated by a Bb trumpet. At the end of the phrase the trumpet plays an F below middle C. This is commonly referred to as a pedal tone. I wanted to input this excerpt into my DAW, but the C trumpet from the Vienna SE Plus does not go down that low. Most sampled trumpets only go down to written F#. Just wondering if the Vienna Bb trumpet has samples of this written F#, what is the range of the Vienna Bb trumpet? I guess I could just employ a trombone. Mahler continues to haunt us..... hahahaha.

hahahaha. Good Answer! Kind of the conclusion I came to, but those pedal tones on the trumpet have a particular timbral quality to them. I think it is awesome that the engineers still can't think of everything. Imagine trying to realize a Toru Takemitsu piece with your sampled sounds! Thanks for the reply DG. -Pete

The trumpet ensembles do have F# as lowest key.
