  • Win7 - Boot Camp?

OK, so I'm finally getting ready to install VE Pro & have decided to run a dedicated Kontakt slave (a Mac Pro that came with Snow Leopard) in 64-bit so I purchased Win7 Pro Full Retail. (My other slave is dedicated to VSL and is a Mac Pro running Boot Camp/Vista64. It's been a solid citizen since Day One.)

I emailed Paul Steinbauer and he said Win7 is their preferred development platform and mentioned it is also for NI.

So now I read online that Apple doesn't yet 'officially support' Win7 - even though it is coming out with a patch for it 'before the end of 2009'.

So, good people, is there anyone out there who has actually installed Win7 64-bit on Boot Camp (Snow Leopard)?

    TIA

    Jack

  • Works awesome...Macs make the best windows machines :) I'm running Windows 7 on a Mac Pro 2008, Macbook Pro 2009, and Mac Mini 2009 all with boot camp. The Snow Leopard version of Boot Camp installs Windows 7 fine.

  • Thanks magnumpraw,

That's one more load off my mind as I enter this cycle of upgrades.

    Best regards,

    Jack

  • Hey magnumpraw,

Do you have a Vienna Key on that machine that you're using Boot Camp/Win7 64-bit on?

I ask because my machine (Mac Pro 2009 2.26GH 8-core) is have huge USB problems with the dongle. It's fine when I boot it up as a Mac.

    Thanks,

    Jack

  • Yes, I'm using a vienna key and no issues on my 2008 model. I do have a 2007 model however that was giving me a usb error on the vienna key everytime I started it up. I solved the issue by plugging the key into a powered usb hub instead of directly into the computer.

  • I'm really only talking about Boot Camp/Win7 64-bit.

I did try a powered hub too. It works when I boot it up as a Mac but when I go into Win7 it doesn't recognize it until it re-seat the dongle then the computer stops seeing my sample drive with LASS on it. I bought the computer solely as a Kontakt/VE Pro slave. So right now I'm out of business with VE Pro. I've had to revert to VE3 for a month long gig.

The only things I see that I can do now is to (1) wait for Apple to come up with its Boot Camp/Win7 fixes, or (2) go to Vista64. My dedicated VSL slave is a Mac Pro running Vista64 and it's been a solid citizen for 18 months now.

  • I'm having the same problem, but with Vista 64. I have to removed the key and re-insert it everytime I boot. Incredibly annoying.

  • I changed back to Bootcamp/Vista 64 and yes, I do have to re-insert the dongle everytime I boot. Interestingly my other slave - also a Mac Pro (although an early 2008 model instead of the newer early 2009 computer in question here) running Bootcamp/Vista 64 recognizes the dongle on bootup just fine.

Still the Win7/Bootcamp was exhibiting worse symptons - because after I re-inserted the dongle it would then fail to recognize one of my sample drives.

  • question: is the drive (which is disconnecting) a USB drive?

i remember there have been some USB related firmware updates for amcPro in the past (had something to do with iphone and jailbreak)

maybe we should compare firmware version and USB hardware (about my mac - more info)
