  • Mac Mini, Parallels, Windows 7 and MIR

Not ideal, I'm sure. But is it feasible for a smaller orchestra? I'm asking about the current top of the line Mac Mini, with a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4 GB. I'm guessing the 4 GB limit will be the problem.

  • This won't work.

Right now, I'm sitting in front of my development-machine, an Intel Core i7 965/3.2 Ghz based system with 12 GB RAM. MIR is started, one big venue ("Großer Saal" from the the Vienna Konzerthaus) is loaded, but not a single VI is instantiated yet: Together with Vista 64, all of that uses around 5GB.

W7 is said to be less memory-hungry, but still I wouldn't expect 4GB to be even near a meaningful setup, sorry to say so (... I don't want to deter you from buying MIR - I just want to avoid frustrations and anger :-) ...)

  • PS: I just checked again - the System Requirements given on the Vienna MIR product page leave no doubt about that:

  • Thanks, Dietz. This was a "hope against hope" question. I did check the requirements before I posted, but I wanted to make sure that being a Mac didn't override PC limitations.

I'll further assume that if MIR is released for Mac, it will still require as much memory. The cost / benefit decision to write MIR for PC becomes even clearer in this light, as Mac memory is more expensive (though it's getting better).

You're welcome, and good to see that you didn't get me wrong.

Please don't hold your breath. Vienna MIR for Mac is _not_ just around the corner. Still many obstacles to overcome ...
