Network and new update
Hi All, New problem has arisen. I updated the latest update for VE Pro. I have a Mac Pro 8 core (new) slave and a Mac book pro as master, connected directly with a Gigabit cable, no internet or hubs. Because the update allows more than 8 Ve pro instances, I redid my orchestral template to include all my libraries. I have 16 instances of 32 bit and 5 instances of 64bit. When the template has finished loading, logic , on my master, freezes when I connect. However, If I open my logic on the slave ( which I never normally use) everything connects very well and quickly. if I load less instances and connect from the master it works ok too , but once I hit 14 or so instances it freezes. Any ideas? I would like to use everything on one computer, but need the extra power for the DAW and FX. Many Thanks, M.

How much memory is the 32bit server using? between 4.8 GB and 7 GB depending on the preloader buffer setting in Kontakt which I was experimenting with.( virtual memory is on. How much memory is Logic using? Logic is using nothing but its own memory. on the master which has about 2.5 GB free on my 4GB mac book pro. Do you get the same result if the instances are Preserved, and loaded (via metaframe) before you launch Logic? Exactly what I've been doing. I set up 18 32 bit instances , all preserved. The server works fine with just the 32 bit server with up ro 20 instances , and is able to connect..The same with the 5 64 bit server. It's only when together (23 to 25 instances) that the sever on the master goes to the beach ball.Again it seems fine when on the same computer. Many thanks M.

I still think that the problem is memory related. The thing is, the 32bit server can't be using more than about 2-3GB, because it's a 32bit app. Kontakt is actually using the memory outside of the VE Pro server, AFAIK. However, each instance of VE Pro, even if it's empty, will use memory, and this is not the same as the memory used for loading the samples into Kontakt..

Thanks for the timely reply I hadn't connected to any instances when the server froze, I was only trying to connect for the first time. When I pressed connect, the server was blank and the beach ball was spinning. No problem when using within the same computer. Also i have been using similar amounts of memory with the Kontakt memory server for some time with success. I reorganized with more instances so that I could disconnect or add sections as needed. I haven't gone beyond the first connection as yet, so I don't know if I reduce the instances there will be more issues. I will try today. Thanks, M.

Thank you again for your quick reply. I'm testing various options, and I've reduced my instances by half by using all 16 channels on all of them. I would like to ask two questions as it is a little confusing to me, so that I can set up my optimum system. 1) Is it only the amount of VEPRO instances that affect the memory of my master (macbook Pro) or also the amount of samples in the instance 2) and is there any difference if its 64 or 32 bit. For example, if I had 10 64 bit instances on my slave , would they affect the performance of my master the same as 10 32 bit instances! thanks, M.
