  • Experienced Sibelius user seeks advice as to which Vienna product to buy

I've been using Sibelius since version 2 (am now on v6), and GPO for maybe 5 years, and think it's time to get some better sounds. However, I'm a composer rather than a computer whizzo, and would really like a Vienna orchestral VST to integrate seamlessly with Sibelius (e.g. articulations, keyswitches etc.) in the way the GPO does. Which Vienna product would users recommend, and is there anything I should be aware of as regards potential technical difficulties? For example, I read in another place that I should install "Vienna Ensemble", but I can't even work out from the context whether that's a sound library or a VST player (that just shows how un-clued-up I am, I'm afraid). I'd really appreciate any advice. Gareth

  • Hello Gareth!

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your interest.

First I'd like to point out two resources, that might be interesting for you.
We have a tutorial video about Sibelius and Vienna Ensemble at the following location:
    http://vsl.co.at/en/211/1343/1348/1594/1245.vsl

More details about how to use our products with Sibelius can be found in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual at the following location:
    http://vsl.co.at/en/68/141/460/576/655.htm

Btw. Vienna Ensemble is our host- and mixing-software for the Vienna Instruments. Once you register one of our products, you can download it for free.

For an easy start I recommend getting the Special Edition or the Special Edition Bundle (= Special Edition + Special Edition PLUS). You can upgrade to our bigger collections anytime.

Here are the differences in short:
Special Edition standard: Most important orchestral instruments with most important articulations:
SE extended: Additional instruments with most important articulations
SE PLUS standard: Additional articulations for the most important orchestral instruments
SE PLUS extended: Additional articulations for the additional instruments

All details about the Special Editions can be found here:
    http://vsl.co.at/en/211/261/314/183.vsl

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thanks, Andi! I've had a look at the video tutorial, and it all looks pretty straightforward. It does refer to Sibelius 5 specifically - have things changed at all with version 6 (which I use)? Gareth

  • Concerning the use of our collections, there hasn't changed much between Sibelius 5 and 6.
