  • Upgrade To Sibelius 6 Not Working

I used to use Sibelius 5 with the SE. I just upgraded to Sibelius 6. When I load a Sib 5 file, none to the SE loads. When I choose to select playback devices SE is not listed. Mark wwww.markthomas.ca

  • Hello thomamd!

Sibelius 6 has it's own Playback Configurations and it's own Sound Set folders. To use your Sibelius 5 Playback Configurations and Sound Sets just copy the files from the Sibelius 5 folders to the respective Sibelius 6 folders.

    Sound Sets:
    Windows XP:
    Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 6\Sounds
    Windows Vista:
    Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 6\Sounds
    Mac OS X:
    Users/your username/Library/Application Support/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 6/Sounds

If there is no “Sounds” folder yet you will have to create one.

    Playback Configurations:
    Windows XP:
    Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 6\Playback Configurations
    Windows Vista:
    Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 6\Playback Configurations
    Mac OS X:
    Users/your username/Library/Application Support/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 6/Playback Configurations

If there is no “Playback Configurations” folder yet you will have to create one.

If you are working on Windows, you will also have to tell Sibelius Where your plugins are located. You can do that on the Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options page.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • I do not think that you understand my problem. SE does not appear in my list of playback devices. Also, my version of Windows does not have a directory called Application Data. I confirmed this with a search. Mark

  • Hello Mark!

I'm sure that your Windows has the Application Data folder too. Maybe it is hidden.

In the Windows Explorer under Tools/Folder Options/View you can select, that you want to see all files and folders.

Special Edition will never appear in the list of available devices, but Vienna Ensemble should. When you have activated Vienna Ensemble, you can select the Special Edition sound set in the right column. That's the same in Sibelius 5 and Sibelius 6.

  • You are correct. The Application Data folder was hidden. I did as you suggested and copied the Sounds and PlayConfig files. However, nothing about VSL appears in the Sib6 Playback Devices. I did notice an xml file with the devices not working. It is like it is ignoring it or overwriting it. Mark

  • As written before, you have to tell Sibelius, where your plugins are located. To do that go to Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options. After setting your plugin directory, you have to restart Sibelius.

  • Hi Andi It is almost working now. I spent hours trying to find where to point my audio engine. My VST plugins are buried in Program Files which is not accessible from the audio engine menu. Then I finally cut and pasted the address of my plugins and it worked. I have loaded a Sib5 orchestral score and it almost plays. I have 4 instances of VSL running each of the major groups. The first three work, but the 4th instances does not yield sound. (The 4th is Strings). I checked playback Devices and the configuration and it was loaded correc;y. On playback, the Sib6 mixer shows all channels assigned correctly and working, but on the mixing screen of instance 4, it does on show any midi data being received. Mark

  • Hello Mark!

    Please check the following things:
Are the Program and Channel settings for the 4th instance made on the Manual Sound Sets page?
You have written that the Sibelius mixer shows an output of the problematic instruments. Where does it go to?

  • Hi Andi I can not longer check the file as I redid it to make it work. I do recall on a different score than instance 4 data was being recieved by instance 2. Something in the conversion of the file screwed up. The score looks fine but if I used multiple instances, I think that I will have to redo the playback config in Sib6. Mark

  • Ok. I also think that redoing the playback configuration is faster than searching for the mistake.

    Best,
    Andi
