  • VE-Pro Metafile Defaulting to 32-bit

    Hi Vienna Team,

The latest release of VE PRO now launches the 32-bit server by default.  I built a template (all 64-bit within the 64-bit server) - four instances of VE - PRO and saved as a metafile.  With the first release I was able (as the manual states) to load the orchestra template in the log in items on the Mac at start up and all was well.  Now VE PRO loads a 32-bit server instead of the 64-bit.  Not good.

Has this issue been reported and if so, is a fix in the works?

I tried to go back to the original release but the load program told me that a later version already existed even though I used the unload facility (VSL).  I saw that some preference files were still present and deleted them but still no luck.

The initial release, at least for me, was more stable than the latest.  What do I need to do to go back to the original so that it will load?  Appreciate any input.....

Also the manual and web states about having custom channel strips.  How do I load a custom channel strip?

    Thanks.....

What is the difference for you? Can you describe the feeling?

assume you are working on Snow Leopard - unfortunately Apple changed the way they handle receits. All receipts are now in a history file, and we have not found a way yet to alter the information effectively.

    Paul,

Is there a way to do it manually?  If so, could you provide a little guidance as to how to approach removing the version?  I'm not afraid to go in and tweek if need be.

The feeling Paul is "sick".  When I started using the initial release, I was really excited when the initial version was released.  I love the fact that I could turn my computer on, it would load my template at start with multiple instances and remembering the position of each instance.  I use three screens and not have to drag them around at start up was a real joy.  I loved the new interface, very stylish and the stability.  I didn't have to reboot once.  Leaving the instruments load and switching sequencer programs is a dream.  Having access to all my memory is something I've been waiting for over two years.

Now I'm experiencing lock-ups with the white box (probably elicense), not happy about the instrument strip label being whited out, my SampleTank now doesn't work correctly as it did in the 32-bit instance, the 32-bit server load thing and the fact I can't even delete the new and reload the old version makes me feel like we've taken a step or two backward.  At least the initial metaframe loaded the 64 bit server by default which worked well for me.  That has flipped with the new version.

    Honest enough???

  • Paul,

I might add that the lock-up issues with the white box has only happened while using Cubase 5 and two dongles.  If I pull the steinberg one and use logic - it appears at this point to be stable.....

This is Apple related. We don´t know a way to change the plisthistory in Snow Leopard - if you find a way, please let us know.

Chuck, we know it´s very hard to make you happy. But we are doing our best.

    Regards,

    Paul

    Paul,

This is not so much about making me happy as it is having a stable music developing platform on the Mac (which in turn improves productivity and does put a smile on my face).  Things were working flawlessly with the first release and now their loose.

What changed is it use to work.  In other words, it use to display correctly.  Now when it loads it only displays for a second then the interface box (the size of sampletank) goes all white.  If you click around with a mouse in the white area it will sometimes come back but then you loose it again once you return focus to the sequencer application.  It was very solid on the first release.  Again I stress -- no issues.

In the process for fixing and enhancing -- some things have stopped working.

  • I don't know where else in the forum this issue has been addressed but I can tell you I've got exactly the same problem as Chuck since updating. Will we ever learn to leave things alone when they are working.

And! I'm on a PC Windows 7 x64, my saved Metafiles now crash.

    Hi,

we will look into this and will hopefully have it fixed with the next update.

If everything was as simple as it looks from "outside", many other companies would have programmed a solution like VE PRO.

Regarding the downgrade to an older build: This works fine on all supported WIN platforms, but the process has changed with Snow Leopard on OS X. Unfortunately we have not found a way to downgrade yet, but are looking forward to hearing from the Mac specialists out there.

Chuck - your happiness is of course also our concern. For a long time, you were very upset that there was no 64-bit version of VE  on OS X (which was not possible without a 64-bit LCC). Now the focus has changed. Again, we´re doing our best, and I really believe that we are reacting very fast to your input [:)]

Let´s see, for comparison, how quick the Apple Support will get back to you on the question of downgrading (we´re still waiting).

Thanks for your patience and feedback in any case - every new build needs testing on quite a few platforms, which takes a little time.

We will never improve things if we do not develop new options. Which sometimes includes a few detours.

  • Paul,

Just to be clear, I'm not upset with VSL.  As the time has passed, the hidden winnie has surfaced.  There is a lot that has happen to the Mac Platform that the way I see it, has keep everyone including developers in a tailspin.  Not being able to back-track to a previous release is just one of the many frustrations I've had in the Mac Platform.

I understand where you and the VSL team are coming from and that much of the issues that have surfaced is not directly your fault.  It doesn't however, minimize the frustration on the user end.  I guess in hind site, it was a bad time for me to switch platforms.  I made my decision to go with VSL while I was still on the PC platform and was very impressed in 2006.  Had I stayed with the PC, we probably wouldn't be having this discussion.  That being said, I'm heavily invested in the Mac now and have to make due.  Hope the dust settles soon if you get my drift...........

    Take care.

PS:  Just downloaded the Logic Update yesterday.  They've broke the color setting on the channel strips.  Guess it just a bad week for updates.......

  • Paul,

As Chuck said and I absolutely agree, VE-Pro is quite frankly brilliant.

The update has simply taken a tiny bit of shine of my weekend.
