  • Reverb PC for MIR and VEP?

    Hey guys,

My recent gig earned me some extra coins to spend on composing tools.  I would like to purchase a dedicated PC to run MIR.  But I think I will wait until the Pro version comes out so I can use it with 3rd party plugins as well.  Will I be able to use VEP and insert 4 instances of MIR or Altiverb 6 for now and route it back to my aux send in my sequencer?

MIR is not a traditional reverb unit, so you don't insert it anywhere. It is a standalone that hosts all your Vienna samples. The Pro version will host 3rd party samples (and FX), and may have audio input, but it is a totally separate product from VE Pro, and there have been no announcements about whether or not MIR Pro will have networking capabilities.

Thanks for your interest in Vienna MIR!

Like DG wrote above, MIR is not just another reverb. The best way to look ak it is as an advanced mixing console for spatial mixing, with integrated hosting of virtual instruments.

To avoid any confusion: MIR is able to host _any_ VST-plugin (like EQs, dynamic processors, etc.). Right now, the only _VSTi_ it hosts are Vienna Instruments (this has mostly conceptual reasons, as MIR has to "know" a lot about the incoming signals to unfold its full power and glory). Nevertheless, there will be an update to Vienna MIR in the near future, which will open it for 3rd-party _instruments_, too. - This has nothing to do with the announced MIR Pro which will be ready in 2010. MIR Pro will be a seperate product, with additional features like the possibilty to use any audio input and so on.

If you want to know more about Vienna MIR in advance of your purchase, feel invited to download the PDF-manual. It's freely available in the Software-section of your VSL User Area.

  • Thanks for the reply guys,

I guess I didn't really unnderstand what MIR was.  So maybe the VSL suite would be a better option for me for now.  Perhaps you could answer a few more questions for me so that I fully understand.

    1) Will the VSL suite work with 3rd party libraries as well?

    2) Could I host the Suite on a slave PC and send effects via VEP to my master computer?

  • 1) Vienna suite is a normal vst or AU) plug-in that you can insert anywere in your sequencer or Vienna Ensemble/VPro.

    2) You will receive three licenses of it. That means it can be installed on three computer with the synchrosoft dongle.

    Hi dexterflex,

not sure about your second question:

Of course you can use Vienna Suite in VE PRO on your slave, but VE PRO is not designed to receive audio input over LAN from your sequencer... it awaits MIDI signals in the networked version.

Used as a stand-alone, you can also pick up audio signals and process them in VE PRO.

    Hope that helps!
