logic 9 and VE PRO Project loading problem
Hi I'm having a big problem with opening projects after I've saved them. I have mac pro 8 core snow leopard as slave and macbook pro snow leopard as master. I can make a template using vsl se and kontakt 3 and it all works fast and good. I can save it and open it again with no problem even after closing and re opeing Logic. But, when I restart my slave and open the same project, it only opens the logic template and not the vsl or kontakt samples. When I click on the VE PRO channel in logic the server says it's not connected . Clicking on connect and choosing a new slave brings my original instrument up automatically. Any instruments loaded directly into logic do load as normal.I have tried so many combinations and reloads and re installs , but can't find a solution. I am doing all the correct procedures , I think?:), Starting the servers first on the slave etc as in the manual. also, when I load the song with vienna pro on one computer ( no slave) everything works ok. Does anyone have an idea of what it could be? THanks, M.

Hmm, i don't think so, how would i be in that mode? is it something I'm doing when I shut down? As I said it all works fine when all is on. When I restart I just open the 2 servers on the slave and then open logic and load the song. It then waits until the template opens without the instruments loaded. I'm sure it's something dumb I've done, but I just can't figure it out. Also it does the same if I make my master the slave and my slave the master. It doesn't happen if I open logic on the master and have no slave. It's wierd and wish I could find a solution. Could you explain what uncoupled mode is? just in case Thanks Martyn

Hi , Thanks for the reply. I read the page, and everything works as it says there. The server page does turn up when I initiate a plug in , and it connects to my slaves. Am I missing something with the restart? I start the 2 server(64 and 32 ) on my slave and they are blank because I haven't started my sequencer. I start up the sequencer and they are still blank as I havent initiated anything yet. I load the project and only the template loads and there is the server window on my master . I then press connect and it connects and my instrument loads. Have I missed something? Many Thanks Martyn.

HI , I know nothing about network settings. I'm wondering if this is to do with the problem? I'm not using internet on the slave, have no airport at all installed and only use the macbook pro airport to down load updates and write emails on help sites:):) My net work setting are "MASTER" IP 169.254.96.80 SUB 255.255.0.0 CONNECTED has a self assigned ip address and will not be able to connect to the internet "SLAVE" IP 169.254.237.61 SUB 255.255.0.0 CONNECTED has a self assigned ip address and will not be able to connect to the internet M.

Ok first off be sure you're not using "wireless" to connect these two. Whether you are or not, please don't. Also before you even start the bottom tests, be sure you open EACH one of your VE Pro server windows and go to the setup of it and ensure you have it "Advertising on the local network" and give it a name to advertise as. If you have and it's not working then keep reading.
Go to each machine and set you IP addresses manually. Give them these settings here:
machine 1 - IP Address 10.0.0.1 and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
machine 2 - IP Address 10.0.0.2 and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
If possible run a network cable directly from one machine to the other (a switch will work, but if possible and you only have 1 slave, use no switch at all). This will ensure they connect. You can go into UTITILITIES and then Network Utility if you want to test it. Go to the PING tab and try to ping the slave machine of 10.0.0.2 and if it fails, then you've still got a problem "physically" or network setup wise.
If you set the settings above they will certainly be able to talk to one another. Then do the following order:
1. Start the Server Services on the Slave and wait for them to finish loading.
2. Open Logic on your DAW machine, create a new project (for testing) and just put in 1 software instrument.
3. Add VSL Ensemble Pro STEREO to the channel.
4. Open the VE Pro interface plug-in and connect and you should see the IP Address of the Slave.
