  • Latency Compensation for MIR

    Hi

If I am using MIR (running on my PC slave, midi over lan, audio back into my DAW) with electronic loops in my DAW. However the MIR instruments (strings, piano, percussion) are slightly late compared to the loops in the DAW. How do I calculate the delay compensation for MIR so it will line up with the loops?

    Thanks!

  • How do you have MIR set up? When I use external FX or instruments, I always ping from the DAW to see what the latency is. Basically if you know the output latency of your slave soundcard and the input latency (not including the output latency) of your DAW soundcard, you should be within 1ms.

  • Hi DG,

Still trying to finish this film!! LOL

I am running Logic, it sends the midi using MOL to a PC slave. It has a RME 9652 that sends the audio back out the ADAT light pipe that is connected to one of the ADAT ins on my Apogee AD-16x and this is set to an audio channel in logic.

What do I need to check in order to calculate the latency?

    Thanks!!

     Can't you ping in Logic?

  • No, it can't.

Simsy, basically you create a single-sample spike in an audio-file, send through an audio-chain, re-record it on the same system where you were sending it from, and finally measure the distance between the original and th re-recorded spike.

The problem is that can't even measure an offset between two regions in Logic in sample-resolution, AFAIK ...

  • Hi

Can I not calculate it to get a very close setting. For example,

    1) Latency introduced by MOL. As DG suggested, what if I ping my PC from the MAC. If I just open terminal widon and ping it I will get a response time. Can I use that?

    2) MIR, the latency introduced by MIR is related to the buffer setting and card setting?

    3) The Apogee AD-16x setting (logic buffer latency) will add more latency?

OR because I am connecting from one ADAT lightpipe to the other ADAT lightpipe does it reduce the audio card latency?

    Thanks
