  • VE Pro + Cubase 5; Pan in Cubase?

    Hi.

I use a Mac Pro, 2.66 with 12 gigs memory.  All most recent updates, etc., to all programs and utilities

I have an orchestra setup in VE Pro and Cubase 5.1.  I just noticed that Cubase panning has no effect, but, of course, it works in VE Pro.  I hope this is possible, because I'm using an AlphaTrack that works nicely in Cubase.  Also, since I'm using the 64 bit version of VE Pro, I can't use a lot of the Plugins there, so I need to instantiate them in Cubase itself.  The memory handling in 64 bit is great!

Is this even possible?  I'll keep searching, but if you know a way, I'd be grateful!

    Thank you.

  • How are you trying to pan in Cubase? I hope that you're not using MIDI panning, because this makes no sense with stereo files. The best way to pan samples in Cubase is to use the VSTi Outputs.

  • Hello.

I have a very vague idea about what you say in your response to my inquiry.  It's too terse for me to get ahold of anything really helpful.  I looks like I should be on the Cubase forum, I think.

  •  Sorry that i wasn't clear. Let me try again:

    1. MIDI panning is only useful on mono files. With stereo files, the best you could hope for is to lower the volume of one side of the sample in order to give the impression of panning. This is not very successful and won't work with Vienna Instruments by design.
    2. Cubase has three different ways to pan, if you use the VSTi Outputs. One of them works the same as the above method (not to be recommended) but the other two allow you to narrow the stereo width, and then move it either to the left or to the right. If you wish to pan in Cubase, then these are the methods you need to use.
    3. Your controller will almost certainly not be able to do this, as it is probably designed for use with mono audio files (I don't have an Alphatrack, so i don't know this).
    4. The alternative is (as you mentioned) to pan in Vienna Ensemble.

I hope that this makes more sense to you now.
