  • VE Pro numerous assorted audio issues

I'm running VE Pro inside of DP7 on a Mac Pro 2.66 gHz Quad-core Intel with 9GB RAM on OS 10.5.8. I also have an Intel MacBook Pro 3.06 gHz with 4GB RAM on OS 10.6.1 running my appassionata strings and percussion, and a G5 PPC on 10.5.8 running my winds and brass (thanks VSL for the compatibility!). I've got some weird audio issues going on.

With only one track playing back, I'm getting massive audio glitches. By "glitch," I mean the kind that sounds almost as if my sample rate was set incorrectly (it's not) or my master clock was sending a bad clock (it's not).

What's even more weird is that when I stop the sequencer and play back from a bar that has no data in it (an empty bar), I will hear the exact same audio glitch with the notes that were previously sounding when I stopped the sequencer. Also, if I record-enable a MIDI track that exhibited the audio glitch on, I will hear the same glitch only on that track.

The only thing that will fix the situation is to go to the end of the note and let the sequencer send a note-off. (So, for instance, if I had a 7-bar held string note, I'd have to go to bar 7 and let the sequencer send the note-off command.)

I'm not sure if this is a VE issue or a DP issue. But at this point, VE Pro is basically unusable for me until someone posts an update.

  • Hi Kevin,

we will look into it. Is this only from the samples on the PPC or are all VE PRO instances affected?

  • Hi Paul,

The glitch happens on instruments from all 3 computers, not just the PPC.

  • I went back and saved my DP7 template into DP 5.13. Everything works fine; no audio dropouts whatsoever.

Looks like this is a DP issue; VSL is off the hook. [:)]

  • I have the same problem in Digital Performer 6.02. DP upgrades have started to be really disappointing in the last few years.

  • Just got the final word on what was causing this. I had DP set to "Pre-gen mode when possible" in the Preferences->Audio Plugins. It should have been set to "All plug-ins in real time."

Thanks to Matt from MOTU for solving this issue.
