I've just started using VSL SE with Sib6 and have a basic problem. Once I've loaded in the Appassionata string instruments to VSL, as soon as I press play or stop in Sibelius, the strings all change from Sustain to Detache. There are no Expression commands in Sibelius and the bars that start playing are completely empty in Sibelius so I cannot see why they are changing.
This ONLY happens with Appassionata strings.
Any ideas ?

I guess you have mixed something up. Detache is not even included in the Special Edition Appassionata Strings.
Did you check out the Optimzing Sibelius Playback manual? You can find it at the following location:
