VEP - Expectation from Master MBP (Macbook Pro)
Hi @ all, since I don't have any licenser key yet to try out the demo, I wanted to ask what I might be able to expect from VEP as a server on a Mac Book Pro Core 2 Duo 2,33 GHZ with 3GB Ram ? : My slave(s) will probably be a new Win7 12GB (or 24GB) I7-Core system (Orchestral Music). : Has anyone testet this yet? How many tracks can you route back to your Logic DAW: Might it bring the Core 2 Duo in the Master Computer to its knees if I for example route 20 individual stereo Tracks at the same time back to Logic from my Slave over ethernet ? : Thanks in advance, nostaller : PS: Srry I am pretty new here. How do you write more than one Paragraph for better posting?

20 Tracks? Not a chance. 20 tracks will barely begin to work up a pulse let alone a heavy heart rate. Look at my specs. I can run over 50 tracks in Logic with VE Pro and my MacBook Pro barely breaks a sweat. It only starts to work once I have put a compressor and a channel EQ on every single track. Also, I run all my reverb on the MacBook Pro (usually 4-5 instances of Space Designer). After that I may see a 50% CPU spike here and there. It's incredibly low though for all the stuff it's doing. I never have any issues at all and my slave machine has 4, 2.8GHZ cores with 16GB RAM. I have never seen that machine go over 15-20% during playback of all channels at once.
I do have a 7200RPM Drive in my Macbook Pro and it helped a lot by the way. What you're asking to do is exactly one of the reasons they designed this software back with VE3. It's a godsend and saved me many thousands of dollars on soundcards and computers. Since I already had that powerful slave machine in the other room, I simply drilled a hole in the wall and ran an ethernet cable directly into it. It has been rock stable for a long time now. This setup will get me years more out of my MacBook Pro.
Honesty I've never tested how many tracks I can get in total but with a gigabit connection directly from machine to machine I am nowhere near that number yet (basing from 25-50 tracks).
