  • Number of Threads per instance (Preferences)

Although I have read the manual, it is not clear what shall I set this to.

For instance, on a 4-core processor, using a few instances (2 or 3) of VE-pro and no other DAW, what would it be the best value (number of threads per instance) to set?

Now, on a 4-core processor, an XP64 OS and running one instance of VE-pro along side Cubase 5.1 (32bit), what is the best setup for this parameter?

In the manual it says that we should “leave a few threads/cores for the DAW software”; but is Cubase really going to care about this and refrain from using the same cores that VE-pro does? Isn’t Windows going to handle this anyways?

    Many thanks!

  • I'd say just leave it to its default setting (which should match your amount of cores). If you have performance problems you have the option of tweaking it.

  • I have a 4 core, and the default from installing VE Pro was 2 cores. Also, does it matter if you are running multi instances of VE Pro? It's not clear if VE uses the same cores for all instances or if it's better to give them each their own instances - such as making the pref 2 cores if you are using 2 instances of VE, thus 2 cores for each instance.
