  • VE PRO External MIDI

First, let me say that I am absolutely pumped about VE PRO. It has solved some major headaches for me and my workflow has improved by leaps over what I used before VE PRO. So, wonderful job you guys did.

Here is an improvement that I'd love to see in VE PRO: The use of external MIDI.

As I understand it, at the moment all MIDI is passed directly to VE PRO via TCP/IP, which is absolutely wonderful. However, using VE PRO plug-ins with Logic poses an automatic limitation in the use of VE PRO in that Logic limits the use of virtual instruments to a single MIDI port with up to 16 channels.

While a single instance of VE PRO can utilize way more MIDI ports and channels, I'm relegated to having to create multiple instances of VE PRO, just in order to get to all my VIs.

This brings me to the feature request of allowing VE PRO to take external MIDI to get around this limitation. If I am able to feed external MIDI (say with MIDIoverLAN from MusicLAB), then I can load up a single instance of VE PRO with all the VIs it is capable of dealing with.

Hope all this makes sense. If someone has found a way around this limitation in Logic, I would love to read about it.

    Thanks,

    JB

  • Using external audio or midi ports does not work together with VE Pro in networked mode. They live in "separate worlds" so to speak, and there is unfortunately nothing we can do about this.

Regarding the Logic / AU limitation - any lobbying towards Apple would be appreciated :)
