Can't use VSL soundset with other device

How come I can only use the Sibelius VSL soundsets with VSL plugins? I want to send the midi out of sibelius using midiyoke or IAC bus but when I select that as a device in sibelius it won't let me select the VSL sound set.

Soundsets have a parameter called PatchLoadMechanism (it's near the beginning of the XML file that defines the soundset).  For the VSL soundsets this parameter is "Fixed".  For General Midi it's "MIDI".  For things that use Kontakt, it's "Kontakt", For Essentials, it's "Sibelius", etc.  This parameter tells the soundset what kind of player to use or not.  So you're going to need to create a new soundset that uses MIDI as that parameter and uses the rest of the soundset as is.  There may be other things you need to change but this is why you can't select it when using a "midi type" interface.
