  • VE PRO AU MIDI Ports?

I got VE PRO working with Leopard and DP6 but I can't figure out how to assign MIDI tracks to ports 2-8. The VE PRO plug looks like it can only address 1 MIDI port per instance. I'm not crazy about the idea of having to open 12 or 15 instances of VE PRO inside of DP and in the server app on my Macpro and my soon to be built i7 slave to get my whole template configured. Is this just a limit of the AU spec or am I missing something?

  • There are multiple threads about this, but basically the answer is yes. You can only have 1 MIDI port per instance using AU. I think the real problem is that it may also be true that you can only have 8 instances of VE Pro connected at any one time. Information about this is confusing, but a number of us on different systems have found this to be the case.

  • Ouch, I could deal with rolling back to Leopard and living without PLAY support but this sounds like a dealbreaker, back to Bidule for the time being.  Thanks for the info.

  • Bruce, I dont know DP. Perhaps it is different.  But as DK notes, the virtual port issue is with VE PRO as a plugin. I think we're all hoping to dump the stand-alone gerry-rigging and gain more direct access to VE within our DAW's.

  • That's definitely it for me plowman.  The main reason I wanted to use VE PRO for local hosting was to be able to consolidate all my VIs under 1 mixing environment with reliable latency compensation and to not have to rely on audio loopbacks and interapplication MIDI for communication with my DAW.
