  • VE Pro system strain when outputs connected

I am setting up a template. Is it CPU intensive to leave the streams connected, even though there is no audio flowing through them Which machine is normally more taxed with the streams - the host or the slave, or both? Would it be a lot to have 20 stereo streams connected with the rig as below, leaving room for other plugins in the host, such as RMX, Omniphere etc?

host: Logic 8, Mac OS 10.5.7, Mac Pro 8 core 10GB

slave: XP64 VE Pro server, Quad Xeon 2.5 GHz, 16GB

    Thanks

    Dom

  • A "silent" stream does not use any network bandwidth, and will not put any extra strain on the system.

  • Fantastic, thanks. I'll do as much silent music as I can. Otherwise, around 20 (non-silent) stereo streams seems not unreasonable? (Buffer on host 128 samples)

  • Definitely not unreasonable. I've been running 200 channels between my macbook pro and my i7 slave.

  • That's great, thanks.
