  • Addressing VE Pro Midi ports 2-8 with Logic

With a XP64 VE Pro slave, and Logic 8 as a host, I can address the 16 midi channels of the first port fine, but how do I address ports 2-8? In Logic's the environment, I tried cabling instrument objects to the second pair of outputs (created with the "+") but that doesn't seem to work. Is there a trick?

    Thanks

  • Trying to figure out how to do the same here in Cubase.  My guess is that we're limited to 16 channels per instance like we would be for a normal VSTi.

The only way I could see it working is if the VE Pro server let you attach multiple VSTi slots to a single instance on the slave.  Then the first would show up on MIDI port 1, second on port 2, etc.  But once a VE Pro instance is attached to a VSTi instance in Cubase, it is no longer accessible.  So you can't do that.  At least I haven't figured out how.

Any help out there?  Or are we stuck with 16 MIDI channels per instance?

  • Hi,

AU instruments are limited to 16 channels by design. This has been discussed quite a few times here already....

With Cubase5, use VST3 (the version with the 3 "///") and you can use 8 ports per instance.

    Best,

Firstly you need to be on at least Cubase 4.5 (AFAIK). then you need to make sure that you use the VST3 plugs ///

Next make sure that you have set the number of MIDI ports to be used in your VE preferences.

Then set the correct number of VSTi Outputs that you want. Bear in main that 1 stereo = 2 Outputs, and the more you have, the more strain on your PC.
