  • Getting output from MIR

    Hi,

I'm in the process of building out my MIR computer and struck a snag with routing the output back to my Mac Pro/Logic machine.  I had thought that I'd be able to start with taking the optical S/PDIF digital signal from a FA-101 but unfortunately MIR requires buffer sizes in powers of 2 (128, 256, 512, etc) but the FA-101 uses non power of 2 buffer sizes.  So the two don't work together at all.  So now I'm in the market for something new.

My preference would be to keep the signal all digital rather than convert to analog as it exits MIR.  Immediate need is stereo but may be interested in experimenting with surround sound in the future.

    What do people suggest?

    Thanks

  • I don't know the FA-101 (that's your audio hardware, isn't it?), but you could try to use an alternative ASIO-driver with it, like ASIO4ALL. It's available online, and it's share- (or even free-)ware. Like that, getting appropriate latency settings should be no problem.

    HTH,

  • Thanks HTH.  ASIO4ALL solved the buffer mismatch issue, and yes the FA-101 is the audio hardware.  So the MIR engine starts happily now.  Unfortunately, the next issue is that in the Options / Audio Settings / Audio Routing section none of the FA-101 ports (input or output) appear - I just see "Not Connected 1", "Not Connected 2", ... Hence no sound.  I can see that MIR is generating sound in the Output Meters.  Any suggestions on the use of ASIO4ALL?

I'm not wedded to the FA-101.  I just had it around from a previous setup.  I'm still interested in other suggestions as to what to use in a MIR slave.

    Thanks

    K

  • Sorry if I'm stating the obvious - but did you try to just click on the "Not connected" entry and tried to change it?

  • Good question to ask, but I'd already tried that.  That's where the "Not Connected 1" and "...2" are also listed.  I've done some more playing and have unfortunately come to the conclusion that ASIO4ALL is not actually activating the audio hardware - hence the not connected messages.  I'll have to try something else.

  • Hmmmm ... but you did select ASIO4ALL as the chosen driver before ...? Strange. Please keep us informed how things develop, we'll think about a solution, too.

    Kind regards,

My machine shows the same behavior, as soon as any other application is using the same audio device as Asio4All. Even if it does not play anything at this time. Closing the other application and re-starting MIR helps to fix it...

    Hope this might help, Florian
