Dear Sir,
I have decided to network 1U PC's and was wondering, about the possibility of expansion in the future.Would having the host/server on a motherboard using the Quad Intel® 82574L Gigabit Ethernet
be an advantage?
I want to have 3 x 1U PC's connected and would like the best choice for networking them. I have never used Gigabit LAN before and find this exciting. My sound card is an XITE-1 1U DSP rack with a PCI-e 1X connector card. My experience so far with PC/Mac's running 16GB's of RAM on a single machine is stable but the 8GB 1U's I have in mind will load quicker, operate better from what I have seen, and the prices of the 2GB DIMM's are rather cheap in comparison. Actually the Supermicro board I am looking at is the 1156 X versions w/ 6 x DIMM's. To me 12GB's is the very farthest I would go w/ RAM. I gather using VE Pro & LAN for connecting would be similar to MIDI, where direct connections from the host instead of " chaining " could be advantageous.
Thanks So Much,
JAV
