  • VE Pro - disconnect capabilities

I've pre-purchased VE Pro, but was curious to learn more about its disconnect-reconnect capabilties.

I was wondering if I could fire up VE standalone first, to say set up a template or play live, then fire up my DAW and connect after VE has already launched. (I work on one computer BTW)

    Thanks

  • Q: Can I run VE Pro standalone, then connect to the same standalone from a DAW using the connector plugin?

A: No, you need to run the server application to be able to connect with the connector plugin. You may create new VE Pro instances directly from the server however, which you can connect to whenever you want.

  • Okay ...

So can I fire up th?e Server application first, and then VE PRO ... and then a DAW if I decide I need one

  • Well, you can choose not to fire up the DAW, but then you will not have any possibility to hear anything [:D]

In short, the audio engine used in server mode relies on being "slaved" to your host.

  • Dear Sir,

I have decided to network 1U PC's and was wondering, about the possibility of expansion in the future.Would having the host/server on a motherboard using the  Quad IntelĀ® 82574L Gigabit Ethernet
    be an advantage?

I want to have 3 x 1U PC's connected and would like the best choice for networking them. I have never used Gigabit LAN before and find this exciting. My sound card is an XITE-1 1U DSP rack with a PCI-e 1X connector card. My experience so far with PC/Mac's running 16GB's of RAM on a single machine is stable but the 8GB 1U's I have in mind will load quicker, operate better from what I have seen, and the prices of the 2GB DIMM's are rather cheap in comparison. Actually the Supermicro board I am looking at is the 1156 X versions w/ 6 x DIMM's. To me 12GB's is the very farthest I would go w/ RAM. I gather using VE Pro & LAN for connecting would be similar to MIDI, where direct connections from the host instead of " chaining " could be advantageous.

    Thanks So Much,

    JAV
