  • Fine Examples of Virtual Orchestra

    I know, I'm talking Pre-VSL here. In a few years this thread will be VERY different [:)] but.....

    Does anybody knows like the title says, "Fine Examples of Virtual Orchestra handling".
    I'm talking about: Movie scores, backing orchestra on pop albums, new age CD's, Classical remakes etc. etc.

    Maybe this thread can be useful to people who want to hear stimulating or impressive examples of what is possible in the Fake Orchestra Buisness.

  • I also reacted aversely to "fake," but it's not Geert's fault - it is the fact there is no nomenclature for this new kind of music.

    But Geert has brought up something important I wanted to know what people thought about - the use of this library for pure music instead of just a substitute for a live orchestra in budget-conscious TV/film music.

    I look at it from the standpoint of a composer writing with sound itself, instead of just symbols for sound. Also, similar to having a "pallette " of sounds, like a painter has a pallette of colors. I wish that it could get beyond the subsitute-for-the-real-thing concept, and become in people's minds what it really is - a means of "writing with sound."

    Also, concerning what one does with such a work - suppose you've created a very serious recording of a symphony, which I've done, entirely with samples. Where is this sold? How is this promoted? Do you show off the fact it is sampled, when you really want people to focus on the music? Do you sell it in classical music bins along with the live orchestra recordings? Then how do you list who played it? It seems to be problematic.

    Perhaps if there were a classical recording project, that was sponsored by a company? Or competitions, etc. But it would be good if there were a permanent outlet for such individual expression that is possible now with sampled orchestral music.
