  • VI & Snow Leopard

    Hi everyone,

I searched for information on compatibility between VI / VE2 and Snow Leopard, but all I found were several-month-old discussions about 64-bit memory support and other technical issues. My question is much simpler.

Has anyone tested VI and VE2 with Snow Leopard? Is it stable and safe to upgrade, assuming the use of a compatible host (Logic 9, in my case)?

Thanks for any input you can provide.

  • Thanks! That implies that it works, at least.

  • VI & VE is working with Snow Leopard on my 8-core Mac......

  • Just confirmed with Apple's Tech Support that Logic 9 is NOT fully 64-bit compatible even with Snow Leopard Installed - still based on old Logic 8 platform.  This confirms what I've been reading on other forums all along and my personal test have confirmed this to be the case.  There is no date as to when Logic 9 will have a release allowing 3rd party plug-ins to utilize all memory available (non-Vienna types).

I will add that Logic 9 combined with Snow Leopard is handling the core processing much better.  One of my sequences was chocking on a single core prior to loading Snow Leopard.  That issue has appeared to have gone away.  The 8 cores are now balanced thanks to Snow Leopard.

Neither Cubase 5 nor Pro Tools are full 64-bit and still waiting to release theirs as well.  Will be interesting to see who get's their's to market first.......

Thought I'd post this just in case anyone was wondering.......

  • Thanks, Chuck!

I installed Snow Leopard this evening and everything works beautifully. I haven't opened any really heavy projects in Logic yet, but my first impressions are that it feels a lot faster.

I was aware that Logic 9 would not be fully 64-bit compatible. I use a Core Duo MacBook Pro that, to the best of my knowledge, won't support 64-bit anyway. My next machine will be a Mac Pro, sometime after the 64-bit transition has been mitigated and I can take advantage of extra RAM.

  • All fine here Mac Pro Nehalem 2.66 Dual Quad Logic 9 OS 10.6 and latest V.I.  V.E. LCC.
