  • Mac suggestions and general setups

    Hi all.

I'm thinking of totally changing my studio system setup as it's just not good enough at the moment.

I am primarily writing for multimedia and small film projects, but other library work is coming in (orchestral based) as well as pop crossover work.

I am open to all types of suggestions, but I am a power logic-user and I won't use any other DAW - I know this one too well!

    So...

I'm thinking of trying to put together a really decent post production package - but I'd like to start a discussiont to figure out what i need, so i can put the budget in place.

I'm thinking a MacPro (but I've not decided how huge this needs to be) - suggestions as to optimum size of various parts?

Either an Apogee symphony system or ensemble system (anyone using either of these? I don't know how many symphony units i would need - I don't do much live stuff... it's all about running software....!!) An MC Control and MC mix.

Separately to this I'm looking at housing some of the instruments independently - so a dedicated PC for MIR maybe?
Also, there is an external box that can house VST / Audio Units just to remove pressure from the host system? I can't remember what it's called, but is it worth the expense?

Would i be better looking at more than one mac or if i go top end quad core would this be sufficient for big orchestral work?I use NI play stuff, stylus, omnisphere, lots of samples via EXS24, kontakt 3, VE instances as much as my system will allow, Altiverb etc...

And last question... UK users? Configuring this system takes a company i can trust. I have worked with jigsaw before - but is there someone else i should be talking to?

Thanks for everyone's help in advance.
