I can't give you any specific advice regarding MIR. However, the answer will depend on a number of things:

Since I'm having quite the same questions here are my needs :
Right need I run over 54 using most of the VSL expression Presets for each instrument...I reach almost 11 gigs of used RAM on my brand new i7.
I was wondering if I want to use the same amount of VI + MIR...what config I should get? :)

As you know I own the whole VSL libraries and I am using cubase 5 and I prefer to use my sequencer in same machine..In how many VI to run around 15 to 30 not sure!..Really I need the best setup to build my new PC with excellent result especially with MIR even if I need 24 GB ram.BTW thanx Sergino Futurino

I have (2) 5550 Intel Xeon processors running MIR and Cubase on the same machine with 24 GB of ram. I am able to have around 30 Vienna Instruments loaded running at 256 buffer with some headroom for more. With the Dynamic Processing feature, You really can get some great performance because if you aren't using a Vienna Instrument for a few seconds in your part, it becomes inactive to free up CPU usage.

The difference between 15 and 30 instruments is large. I would imagine that I could run that amount on my current PC (older model dual Xeon), except I can't test it, as MIR won't install on XP64.
If 30 instruments is really your maximum number, then as long as you don't have a gazillion other plugs and sample players running, I don't see any reason why an i7 shouldn't be up to the job. Hopefully some time soon VSL will publish a list of various systems and how they cope with MIR. Until then, you just need to pester cm and Dietz until they can't stand the sound of your typing. [:P]

there are 2 issues with the i7 (desktop, single processor) systems:
- in fact you can't get 4 GB sticks (non-ECC, unbuffered) so you're limited to 6 x 2 = 12 GB RAM
- our tests turned up that memory bus speed _is_ important (6 modules run at 1066, 3 modules at 1333 MHz)
*also sprach zarathustra*, 22 instruments, buffer 128, 8-core XEON 5550 overclocked to 2.93 GHz, HT (now called VT) enabled.
12 x 2 = 24 GB running at 1066 MHz - CPU 39%, crackles sometimes
6 x 4 = 24 GB running at 1333 MHz - CPU 34% no crackles
same with 12 x 2 GB (1066) buffer 256 - CPU 18% and of course no crackles
are there any other motherboards besides intel? ... ok, just joking ....
the memory bus speed dropping is according to the (current?) specification of the on-processor memory controller of the nehalem processors. (1 module per channel 1333, 2 modules 1066, 3 modules 800) ... i can already find DDR3 sticks for 1866 though ...
AFAIK AMD works with max. 2 memory channels at all so 3 from a nehalem is always faster (provides higher throughput)
