Wondering whether or not Snow Leopard will enable us to bust through the 3 GB memory limit per VE instance on Mac. Any word?

Snow Leopard and VI

you will be able to pass the 32bit memory addressing limit soon - however this depends only to a less degree on snow-leo but 64bit components in general. of course the 64bit kernel and GUI with snow-leo helps ...
stay tuned for the news, christian
and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds. -
Thanks for the info. I've resisted going to VE3 from VE2 since I can't use audio over ethernet (due to the fact that you're limited to 3 GB for all your VE3 instances when you work that way). Can you clarify - if I'm NOT using VE3 with the audio-over-ethernet capability, do separate VE3 instances use separate memory blocks, and is it advisable to upgrade?

Christian,
In order to exceed the 3 GB limit with VI and Ensemble, will the DAW need to be 64 bit capable also before everything works correctly?
-
if with DAW you mean the workstation (= computer) then yes - the processor needs to understand 64bit programming.
if you mean the audio application (= host) then i don't know any OS X audio apps or host beeing 64bit currently ... some (eg. logic for exs) allow 64bit memory asigning.
we'll see if logic 9 has a hidden 64bit feature once it runs on snow-leo ...

Yes Christian.... I was referring to the Sequencer. I know Logic has 64-bit capability with EXS but it may take some time for Cubase to come to the party once Snow Leopard is released. That was the basis for my question. When Snow Leopard is released, will VI and VE be able to access beyond the 3.0 GB of memory running as a plug in in 32-bit Cubase?
