...I have not yet decided if I want to go with Altiverb or the VS. ... Altiverb, for example, lets you use different distances for the different instrumental choirs.... It seems that you have done this as well, but since you are doing it only by adjusting parameters... I am wondering what method you have used to achieve this?
Hi O
Yes, I've used the offered knobs and shifters achieve the different depths. The main difference between the depths is the balance between the dry and wet signal.
But the presets with the Convo-Reverb is only the one side. The other side of the coin is that you have to do some works inside your DAW.
The farther away an instrument or a group of instruments should sound...
1. the more you should narrowing the stereo signal
2. the more you shoud cut the high frequencies a bit
If you have done it then you will get good results together with my depth-presets.
The two "shift-speakers" within Altiverb are easier to handle because all the EQ and mono settings will be made for you.
Further, Altiverb offers several closer and farther IRs with the same room. That's really a help. Unfortunately there are not a great
number of "color free" and usable rooms for orchestras even if the total offer of IRs is enormous.
The Vienna Convolution Reverb comes only with usable IRs. I didn't found a bad one.
But I'm not sure whether we can compare the two reverbs. Altiverb is a reverence for all other Reverbs...
Buying both of them could be a solution [:)]
Best, Beat
By the way: I installed a sound example on my homepage of "Neuer Saal"
