  • Removing expression CC messages

I downloaded a MIDI file, and I'm playing it with Sibelius 6 and the Vienna Special Edition.  Does anybody know how to remove (from several measures) unwanted Expression CC messages that are embedded in the MIDI file?  Thanks.

  • Gary,

I'm not familiar with Sibelius (I use Finale), but you might find it easier to remove CC data with some sort of sequencer program (Sonar, Logic, etc).  I find MIDI editting generally much easier in a sequencer than in Finale.  You might even investigate Reaper (which I am presently using and enjoying for its customizability) as a low-cost sequencer.  Although MIDI editting isn't its high point, it's easy enough to display, say, CC 11 (expression) and erase it.

I hope this helps. Let me know you need more information.

  • Thank you for your suggestions.  I have a sequencer (Pro Tools), and I know I could import the MIDI file into a PT session and easily change any MIDI data.  But I am trying to do things from Sibelius, without having to open PT, so I was wondering if it could be done from within Sibelius.

  • Switch on "View Hidden Objects" and use the advanced filter. All CC messages are text in Sibelius. It's just that they're hidden.

  • I have "View>Hidden Objects" on.  I selected a bar containing expression info (I can tell because I can see it moving a slider in the Vienna Interface).  I chose "Edit>Filter>Advanced Filter>Text>Containing ~".

It didn't work.  Am I doing something wrong?  Does anybody have any other suggestions?

  • With "View>Hidden Objects" on you can then select objects by simply clicking on them and then hit delete.
