I'm close to getting a new 64 bit system with MIR in mind - single PC set up. I would be really grateful if a couple of you old pros (meant with the greatest respect) would give a brief once over and confirm if there are any glaring no-nos.

a few considerations:
- 6GB RAM will be not enough for MIR plus a reasonable big arrangement
- Windows 7 seems to be better suiting (not only to MIR), the RC can be downloaded and is already stable
- though i assume the 920 will be reasonably powerful we haven't tested this CPU so far

Running a sequencer / DAW / notation program on the same machine will work, but one has to be aware of several things when doing so:
- many audio-devices won't allow for more than one application to access its drivers, so it's either Vienna MIR or the DAW you will be able to listen to
- MIDI feedbacks can occur and have to be taken care for
- Vienna MIR and the DAW will have to share CPU / RAM / bus ressources, thus restricting both applictions

Not much more than having MIR on a separate machine, I wouldn't have thought. Unless one was going to use RD, in which case one is in the same position as before, then a separate monitor would be needed anyway.

it seems alongside to triple channel RAM we will find us heading towards a triple screen setup 😉

It will be 12 GBs of ram 6 x 2 and when 4gb units are affordable i can upgrade to 24GBs.
On the processor is it worth twice the money to go for the i7 940 2.93GHZ £444.48 instead of £221.98 for the 920 2.66ghz
Yes it's my intention to run everything on one PC - Sibelius and VSL. I've had no trouble running VE+VS+Sibelius. And assumed MIR+VE+Sibelius would work as well. I'm still not clear if that is the case (putting aside any difficulties with CPU + RAM) and will not buy MIR until it is clear.
On the Vista/W7 point I'd be very dubious about starting the new machine straight to W7. Are people really happy that everything we use will work with no glitches on the RC W7? How would that work? Would I download the W7 RC to disc and then boot the new machine from that disc?
