  • First Edition vs. Pro Edition

    Hello,

This will seem like a very silly question but I just wanted to make double sure. I am working here at a project studio and they have purchased the First Edition of VSL and installed all the files on removeable hard drives.
Now they have purchased the Pro Edition. My question is: Can I just replace the First Edition files present on the hard drive (the file names are the same) or is the Pro Edition completely different?
I was told it was an update but I am not sure if I should store them aong with the First Edition files. These samples take up a lot of space so I don't want ot be wasting any.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • yeah - just replace the old files.
the pro edition has the same content as the first edition, but with some newer programming for some of the old stuff (as well as brand new instruments). Some of the numbers have changed, due to changes to the initial plan.

short story: delete old files. defrag drive. install new files. enjoy.

  • joey, you didn't mention on which platform you are ... there are some different behaviours with giga and with exs. whereas giga performances (saved with the first edition installed) load almost flawless if *any* filename is the same, in exs you will need to re-assign all instruments which have even a different path. i'd not recommend to replace editions in the middle of a project if you are on a schedule or at least only work with copies of your files.
