  • triggering articulations in Sibelius

I've been using VSL-SE for a while now but some of the articulations available and triggered by the Sibelius dictionary don't work, especialy "detache" or "détaché" with the solo and ensemble strings. I tried to re-create the word "detache" in the dictionary but the "+ detache" sound ID doesn't seem to be able to trigger any detache sample in VSL... I also noticed that to cancel "pizz", I have to insert "arco" when "ord" or "nat" won't make any change when "pizz" is activated... I have to mention that I went to the VSL page and downloaded the manual and the video showing how to use VSL with Sibelius, I also downloaded the latest soundset. I don't see anything else I should have done... Any suggestions? Thanks! Jean

  • I can't help you with the detache problem, but you should always use acro to cancel a pizz, because ord. and nat. have different purposes.

  • You have to be careful to choose the right instrument in Sibelius. Use Solo Violin, Solo Viola, … for solo instruments and Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin I, Viola, … for ensemble strings. The program you select on the Manual Sound Set page has to match the instrument.

If this doesn't help, try the following thing: Go to the Sibelius mixer and reassign the sound ID (third line in the mixer) of the instrument, that doesn't switch correctly. If you use the same sound ID more than once, be careful to assign it in the right order. For example the first line with "strings.violin" for the first violin and the second line with "strings.violin" for the second violin.

  • I had the same problem.  "Detache" wasn't in my dictionary.  I believe I added a new word "detache"; Effect: Sound ID change; Effect values: Sound ID: +detache, until next sound ID change.  It is now working for me.  I made a small test session in Sibelius to test all the articulation changes, including detache.  I would be glad to send it to you if you would like.
