Sounsaet not found by Sibekius 5.2
I am getting very frustrated. I downloaded the soundset for SE, extracted the files and put when in Program Files/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 5/Sounds But when I load Sibelius 5 and the New Devices, SE is not listed. I can see Midi Yoke, Kontact2, but no SE. I am using XP SP3 installed on D: Thanks for your help Mark

AMD64 Quad Core, XP Pro SP3, Special Ed Strings, VI, Sibelius 5.2.5 I cannot get Sibelius to find the soundset for the SE. According to the Sibelius website, version 5.2.5 has an improved soundset which is part of the upgrade. Indeed, if I go to Program Files/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 5/Sounds, I can see a listing for a file with SE in the name. But when I run the program, the soundset is not listed in the possible playback devices menu. Note: Documents here and the tutorial make reference to an "Application Data" folder. Here in Canada, this does not exist in my version of XP, and I cannot make a folder called that because I am told it already exists (Thanks, Bill) Mark

Hello Mark and welcome the the forum!
The sound sets do not appear in the list of available devices. First you have to activate an instrument (in this case Vienna Ensemble), before you can assign the sound set. If you haven't done so yet, you can download Vienna Ensemble for free at the following location:
http://vsl.co.at/en/68/428/516/212.htmAdditionally I recommend watching the Sibelius and Vienna Ensemble tutorial video at the following location:

The problem is still not solved. Your documentation and video say that while running Sibelius, I go to PLAY->PLAYBACK DEVICES, I hould se VE listed. I do not!!! That is what I have been trying to tell you, I am using version 5.2.5 I am sorry if I seem annoyed, but I have wasted an entire long weekend on this. Mark

I guess you did not set the plugin directory in Sibelius then. You can do that in the Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options/Virtual Instruments and Effects Folder. Choose the path where you installed Vienna Ensemble. That's the one where the file Vienna Ensemble.dll is located.

Thank you for your help. I am starting to get things slowly working. As I just got the Quad Core, there was hardly anything on it, so I reformatted everything and started over. I did this to remove an IDE drive with Windows on it which the system called "D:" I figured I was having enough problems without complicating things more. In the end...the documents you have about a "Application Data" folder do not apply to XP Pro in Canada. The correct path is "C:/Program Files/Sibelius Softare/Sibelius 5/Sounds". Also Sibelius defaults to the "VST Plugins" folder just inside the Steinberg folder when it should be the one in the "Cubase 3" folder. Perhaps I shall go through the folder and move some things to the default folder as not everything in the folder I am using applies to VE and generates error messages. One question. My midi interface is not working, so I had to use Sibelius and SE Strings. The first few times through the Mendelshonn demo went fine, but then things started changing to all pizzacato. How do I change it back? Mark

Hi Mark!
The sound set path you are writing also works, but the one written in the document is read first by Sibelius. I'm sure it also exists in canadian Windows versions. Probably you have not selected the display hidden files and folders option in your explorer and don't see it therefore.
There was a similar thread about wrong pizzicati a few days ago.
