    Hi All

    I wonder if you can help me out and I'm posting here as I know VSL forums aren't actually that biased.  So I have the Cube and I also use Omnisphere and RMX for music.  I am now looking for some good mastering and mixing tools.  I also am torn about getting a good convolution reverb - I used to use Wizooverb (which I loved but doesn't work on Intel Mac) so I now use good old Space Designer.  So there's the background.

    I have £500 to spend and am torn between buying either the VSL Suite or Izotope 4 for mixing/mastering.  If I go for Izotope I can probably stretch to buying Altiverb Standard too.  However with MIR just round the corner perhaps I should wait and see how it compares....

    So I'm looking for your recommendations for mixing, mastering and reverb tools within my price bracket.  What do you recommend?

    As I'm bored out my brains remixing a  track at the moment Tim I will endeavor first.

    I would probably look at the Vienna Suite while you can get it for the money based on the Sterling/Euro exchange rate. Vienna are putting up the UK prices by 15% on March 1st. That's a big increase and lets me out on some libraries I was going to get but now won't and will probably get an all in one package like Symphobia instead (providing that doesn't go up either)

    The panning thing in the VS would be the thing I would probably most want.

    Izotope has got a very good press for mixing/mastering and I use Altiverb 6 which is great for placing those speakers on the stage etc. Very good sounding reverb for orchestral work and probably most other things. Space Designer does most other things too so you would have to weigh the cost and whether a lot of what you do is orchestral to the point of requiring the more comprehensive Altiverb 6. Otherwise get the VS and use the panning device with Space Designer. I tend to use Altiverb 6 and nowadays have just acquired a Lexicon PCM96 to wash everything over with, having mixed down to stereo.

    There are some interesting plugs from Abbey Road btw for mastering - check those out if you haven't done so already. I would also recommend looking at the PSP Vintage Warmer.

     just to have 2 things said ...

    - Vienna Suite is a download product, sold in EUR only so all it depends on is the actual exchange rate (i.e. no price increase, since this goes only for products sold in GBP)

    - if not sure check it out by yourself - you can get a free 30 days demo license from the product page

    Thanks Paul - hope the track doesn't get too boring!

    I've had a look at the Abbey Road it does sound pretty sweet.  Only problem I foresee   is the need for an iLok.  I hate dongles, it's bad enough with the Vienna key.  Thanks for the advice though.  I'm glad that you don't see not having Altiverb as a big minus.  I'll try playing about with the demo of VS using the Pan control and pumping it into Space Designer.

    Oh no not at all. Altiverb is really an industry standard and the guys that run the place in Holland are some of the best for support. Tremendous support actually. I'm running 6 Altiverb instances on this track using a MacPro right now without even breaking sweat - great piece of kit. Not cheap though.
