  • Will this affect VSL development?

    http://www.tascam.com/press/index.php

The Tascam announcements for WNAMM 2003 have just been posted, and there doesn't seem to be any mention of GigaStudio 3.0. Perhaps something will be mentioned on the floor, but it doesn't appear that 3.0 is imminent.

Will this affect the VSL release schedule this year, or perhaps cause more emphasis to be placed on EXS24? Is there any possibility that VSL will be released on a different platform, for instance the bundled version of Kontact (as is being done with the Eastwest EWQLSO library)?

  • I used to have no axe to grind against Gigastudio, prior to receiving after an expenditure of several hundred dollars a program that does NOTHING.

(Yeah, I guess it could have been thousands - they wish.)

But I would add to the other posts on this forum I've made that you should consider very seriously before making any Gigastudio purchase, because it doesn't work, at least on a new XP pro system that is fully functional with other extremely complex pro-audio and video software. I also have the Windows version of Logic, which is now being jettisoned by Emagic.

What a joke! All the platforms that one can use this geat recording project are useless! If you find any answers, let me know.

  • i got the GS running on at dual p3 with windows 2k and logiic with no problems perhaps you can focus on the tech issues at some of the giga forums

  • les - no VSL YET. everything eles runs fine- however from time to time i get a blue screen when running the nfx reverb- this is a indication of some sort of sever hardware conflict maybe due to dual cpu?? who knows - but since 1.- nfx sucks anyhow and 2. i just got trueverb its not a big deal ( yet)

the problem with such a program like giga and the PC world generaly is the voodoo approach to configurations. i have built many complex systems going back to early NT in the video world. good sodtware might work well with one MOBO combo . then crash miserably on another seemingly stable sytem. - THE ONLY TRUE SOLUTION TO THIS MADNESS IS FOR
SOFTWARE MANUFACTURES TO EITHERa) post tested mobo configurations or partner with hardware companys and sell preconfiured units.
in the video world matrox, pinnacle, discreet ,logic and DPS have taken these measures much to the success of there products. IE : if you go to DPS website to purchase a $10k velocity videoboard you would do best to consider there tested mobos and what slots work, etc. [*-)]: WHY IN THE WORLD DOESN'T TASCAM,STEINBERG , EMAGIC, ETC,AND SOUNDCARD MANUFACTURES TAKE THIS APPROACH IS BEYOND ME!! go to any PC audio fourm and most of the are rants about confiuration issues. its just the things are now i guess!
