  • Please help!

    Hi,

I upgraded to the latest version of VI and VE2, and now my orchestral score in Sibelius is no longer playing back.  I was already using VE2, but noticed that VE2.3238 was on the site, and decided to update.  I also updated to the latest version of VI, also 2.0-3238.

Now my score won't play back.  Also, after the instruments are all loaded, I can't even click on the keyboard in the VI's to get playback.  The keys won't even respond, let alone play the samples.  Very frustrating. Standalone versions are working fine, but not in sibelius anymore.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks,

    O

  • When opening the score, do the samples get loaded in Vienna Ensemble?
Did you check the Directory Manager?

Did you check, if the problem remains after rebooting your computer?

  • Yes, the samples do get loaded.

Directory Manager looks fine, but I never really bother with it, so I'm not sure exactly what to check.

    Reboot does not help.

Do I need to rebuild my playback configuration from scratch?  All standalone versions are working fine.

  • So, I can load VI instances individually within the playback configuration, and when I do, they respond as they should: samples load, the virtual keyboard in the VI responds to mouse clicks, etc.

However, when I instantiate VE2, Instrument 1 (the first empty VI) does not respond to mouse clicks on its virtual keyboard, and does not play back sounds, although it does load samples, and all other buttons/etc seem to function fine.

Very frustrating.  The only changes that I have made were to upgrade VI and VE2 to the latest builds, and to install the vienna suite demo.

Is there a way for me to make sure that the VE2 upgrade was properly installed?  Is there any other troubleshooting suggestions.

I have a big orchestral composition that is being caned by this malady.

    Much thanks,

    O

  • Ok, I just uninstalled all VE stuff on my computer and reinstalled, and now I'm back in business.

I guess I made a bad assumption: When the VE2 installer asked me if I wanted to do "an upgrade" , I assumed that it was actually upgrading the existing software.  Nope, it just added it, and sibelius was apparently choosing the wrong one.  That's my guess in any case.

  • Sorry for the difficulties. I'm glad that it works now.
That something must have gone wrong during instalation would have also been my guess.

  • Hi,

    To VSL people:

Just want to know, in this situation of VI/VE upgrade, does the installer search any installed sequencer(s) and replace the plug-in in the sequencer's plug-in directory automatically or we have to do it manually?

If it does not replace automatically, I think that maybe the problem -we have to manually copy the new plug-in on (I presume) every sequencer we have (including Sibelius).

Please correct me if I'm wrong

    Mario

  • Hi Mario!

Newer versions of Vienna Instruments and Vienna Ensemble replace older version on installation. However, when it comes to troubles after the installation (which normally is not the case), it may help to uninstall and reinstall.

You don't have to copy the installed instrument. Host programs (including Sibelius) have the option to set the Plugin path.

    Best wishes,
    Andi
